The Christmas Tree Park Project
COMMUNITY BUILD AND GRAND OPENING
FOR NEW INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND AT CHRISTMAS TREE PARK
Manchester, Maryland – On November 7, 2015, the Town of Manchester and Hailey’s Wish are bringing a new inclusive playground area to Christmas Tree Park. The playground will include unique and exciting play equipment that is specially designed to ensure all children are able to use the equipment without regard to physical ability. Additionally, the playground design will encourage interaction among children with and without disabilities.
Last year at this time, fundraising efforts were still underway, but now successful fundraising has allowed the Town of Manchester to purchase all of the playground equipment and the Town has already installed the foundational elements of the playground. Hailey’s Wish and the Town would like to bring our community together to complete the playground installation through a community build.
The Community Build will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, from 8:00 am until approximately 12:00 pm. Please join us and volunteer your time and talents to help complete this amazing project. Although some skilled hands would be very helpful, no prior experience is necessary and all hands are welcome. Coffee and donuts will be provided for the volunteers. Individuals interested in volunteering should contact the Town of Manchester by phone at 410-239-3200.
After the playground build is complete, the Town of Manchester and Hailey’s Wish invite the children to join us for a Grand Opening event where children can enjoy playing on the new equipment while snacking on some special treats. The Grand Opening Event will begin at 12:00 pm on November 7, 2015. Special treats will end at 1:00 pm, but the playground will be officially open to the public any time after the Grand Opening.
Hailey’s Wish strives to provide the most accessible and inclusive playgrounds possible. Therefore, Hailey’s Wish will continue fundraising in an effort to provide poured rubber surfacing that will allow better access to the new equipment. The estimated cost of the rubber surfacing is $14,000. Hailey’s Wish will seek funding through grants, donations and additional fundraising events.
Individuals or businesses wishing to make a donation to Hailey’s Wish for this project may contact Brigitte Miller at 410-236-4138 or by email at haileyswishfoundation@yahoo.com.
